We don’t always notice it, but our home affects our mood every day. A cluttered room is tiring, an empty one feels cold. Between the two there is a balance: a place that reflects who you are, where every object has a reason to be there.
1. Light comes first
Natural light is the first ingredient of wellbeing. Keep windows clear and choose linen curtains that filter light without darkening the room. In the evening, use several soft light sources rather than a single ceiling light: a pendant above the table, a lamp in a corner, a wall light by the sofa. Warm light (2700 K) calms and prepares you for rest.
2. Restful colours
Natural tones – beige, sand, wood, terracotta – create a calm base. Then add one or two bolder colours in small touches: a cushion, a painting, a vase. The eye needs points of reference, not an avalanche of colour.
3. One focal point per room
A successful room often has one element that draws the eye: a large painting above the sofa, a rug with a strong pattern, a sculptural pendant. Choose it first, then arrange everything else around it.
4. Materials you want to touch
Wellbeing is also about touch: a thick throw on the sofa, a soft rug underfoot, linen or velvet cushions. These textiles bring warmth and instantly make a room more welcoming.
Our throws · Our cushions · Our rugs
5. Less, but better
Rather than accumulating, choose a few objects that mean something to you. A calming home leaves room for empty space: that is what brings out the things you love.
At Maison Ferrant, this idea guides our selection: pieces that give your home character without overloading it. One detail at a time.
